High-Performance Visibility & Present Weather Sensor for Aviation, Offshore & Meteorological Applications
The Biral VPF-730 Visibility & Present Weather Sensor is a premium forward scatter optical sensor designed to provide highly accurate Meteorological Optical Range (MOR) visibility measurements together with advanced present weather detection. Built for demanding aviation, offshore, marine, and meteorological environments, the VPF-730 combines proven forward scatter technology with an exclusive backscatter receiver to accurately distinguish between liquid and frozen precipitation, ensuring reliable weather reporting in all operating conditions.
With a visibility measurement range from 10 metres to 99.99 kilometres, the VPF-730 continuously measures MOR, EXCO (Extinction Coefficient), precipitation intensity, and accumulated precipitation while reporting 15 WMO Table 4680 present weather codes for seamless integration into aviation and meteorological systems. Its rugged hard-coat anodised aluminium construction, heated optical windows, automatic contamination monitoring, and exceptional corrosion resistance make it particularly well suited for offshore platforms, heliports, airports, and other harsh outdoor environments.
The VPF-730 supports RS232 communications as standard, with optional RS422/RS485 interfaces for easy integration into SCADA systems, Automatic Weather Stations (AWS), METAR reporting systems, and Runway Visual Range (RVR) installations. An optional interface for the ALS-2 Ambient Light Sensor enables ICAO-compliant RVR applications.
